Meeting to expand local production of automotive components and spare parts

The Ministry of Industry is exploring the localization of automotive components through the local manufacturing of plastic accessories, as part of efforts to increase integration, expand subcontracting, and reduce reliance on imports.

Meeting to expand local production of automotive components and spare parts

The Minister of Industry, Ferid Kortel, discussed with representatives of Algerian companies authorized in vehicle manufacturing ways to expand local manufacturing of automotive components and increase the integration rate, with a focus on producing plastic accessories locally and reducing reliance on imported components.

This took place during a meeting that brought together the Minister, this Saturday, at the Ministry of Industry headquarters, with vehicle manufacturers, in the presence of several central executives of the ministry, dedicated to discussing mechanisms for building a more integrated national industry in the automotive field and developing the associated subcontracting activity.

In this context, Kortel directed to accelerate coordination with the company "General Plastic Injection" (GPI) in Tissemsilt, a subsidiary of the ACS group, with the aim of manufacturing the plastic components needed by vehicle factories, provided that the manufacturers provide the molds necessary for production.

According to the data presented, this path would enable GPI to cover the needs of automotive factories for plastic components locally, after providing the molds specific to each factory, which supports the expansion of the subcontracting base and national production.

The operators participating in the meeting showed a positive response to this direction, with their commitment to provide the required molds, in preparation for the start of production of plastic components intended for their factories as soon as possible.

Expanding the subcontracting base

The Minister of Industry confirmed that the sector's services will accompany this path, allowing for the realization of component localization projects and strengthening national production, within the framework of the trend towards building an integrated automotive industry and raising levels of local integration.

This move comes at a time when the subcontracting activity related to the automotive industry is witnessing efforts to expand the base of local producers, through the development of manufacturing various components and accessories that go into vehicle manufacturing.

In this context, last February witnessed the signing of memorandums of understanding in the field of industrial subcontracting, including an agreement between the Algerian Industrial Company for Wired and Wireless Communications (SITEL) and the company IDE-NET, which specializes in the manufacture of electrical harnesses, electronic cards, screens, electronic mirrors, and car meters.

The agreements also included a memorandum of understanding between IDE-NET and the company SARL Plasti Helal, which specializes in the production of plastic clips intended for the automotive industry.

GPI factory enters the equipment phase

The process of localizing plastic components is linked to the "General Plastic Injection" (GPI) factory project in Tissemsilt, whose work was launched last April, with the aim of producing various plastic accessories and components intended for the automotive industry.

The project is located in the Sidi Mansour area in the municipality of Khemisti, on an area exceeding 107,000 square meters, and is among the projects that have been revived and integrated into the economic cycle.

Prime Minister Sifi Gharib had overseen the launch of the project's work on April 29, 2026, confirming that the factory would adopt modern technologies and contribute to providing plastic components intended for the automotive industry.

Last July, the factory announced that the project had entered a new phase with the start of installing industrial equipment and production lines, as part of the preparation for its entry into the operational phase, which coincides with the efforts aimed at expanding the local manufacturing of automotive components.
